THE PROGRAM
The BUSY School recognises the importance of providing the opportunity to improve the social, educational and employment outcomes of young people, in particular, those who have disengaged or who are at risk of disengaging.
All students will be supported in developing an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and a Career and Pathways Plan (CAP Plan) plan upon enrolment. ILPs and CAP Plans are created by students themselves, in consultation with an Employment Pathways Officer, Learning Support, teaching staff and, when possible, with the involvement of parents and whānau.
The establishment of an ILP helps students in their learning by identifying the most effective methods of engagement for each individual. ILPs also assist teachers in understanding student goals and providing the necessary support and reasonable adjustment to facilitate learning.
CAP Plans are designed to align with student interests, strengths, and abilities of students. They provide students with the opportunity to take charge of their own learning journey, which may include vocational education and training options, work experience goals, and a pathway to employment after graduation.
Students at The BUSY School will complete four senior subjects, subjects from the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NCEA) Framework. These subjects will be relevant to the students’ identified pathway. Students will also complete additional electives/courses from a range of Vocational Education and Training Unit Standards. Additional vocational training will be offered through work placements and in collaboration with Trades Academy providers as an elective based on student’s needs and interests.
